How to Install Swisstrax Tiles When Your Garage Doors Don't Line Up

If your garage doors are offset from one another, you may need to make a small adjustment during installation. This guide explains how to do it.

Step 1: Start at the Back Garage Door

We recommend starting your installation at the garage door that is furthest into the garage. Line the tiles up with that door first, then continue installing the floor toward the second garage door.

Step 2: Check the Door Offset

Each Swisstrax tile measures 15.75 inches.

If your second garage door is offset (for example, by 24 inches), the tiles will not line up perfectly because 24 inches is not evenly divisible by 15.75 inches.

Step 3: Cut One Tile in Half

To keep the tile pattern aligned with the second garage door, cut one tile exactly in half.

For a 24-inch offset:

Use one full tile (15.75")
Add one half tile (7.875")

This combination brings the layout into alignment with the second garage door while keeping the tile pattern consistent.

Important: Do not trim the tile to fit the exact opening. Cut the tile exactly in half, leaving the center support rib intact. This is important for the installation hardware to work correctly.

Step 4: Install the Edge Pieces

Because the tile has been cut in half, the standard edge pieces will not snap onto it.

To finish the installation, you'll need:

Pegged edge pieces for the cut section
Swisstrax metal edge clips to attach the pegged edges to the cut tiles

These parts are designed specifically for installations that require a half tile at the edge.
